The Best of Prague in 2 Hours

cesky krumlov

Currently, the castle complex, the first buildings of which date back to the 13th century, remains one of the most famous architectural monuments of Central Europe, preserved almost unchanged to this day. On the territory of Cesky Krumlov Castle, literally all the elements of the interior and interior design of the premises, as well as the original decoration of the residential and state halls, have been preserved.

Cesky Krumlov Castle in history and culture

It is thanks to this that Cesky Krumlov Castle became a municipal reserve in 1963, a historical reserve on a national scale in the Czech Republic in 1989, and in 1992 it was included in the list of world cultural heritage buildings protected by UNESCO. Currently, the territory of the castle complex houses the exposition of the city historical museum and the directorate of the Czech branch of the UNESCO Foundation, which, along with the state, finances the restoration of the castle (some of its buildings require reconstruction) and organizes cultural events - music festivals, knightly tournaments, which attract guests here from all over the world.

Location of the architectural monument
Huge even by modern standards, Cesky Krumlov Castle is located on a mountainous cape, which is washed on the south by the waters of the Vltava, and on the north by the flow of Polecince, one of the branches of the river. The towers of the castle, towering above the city, were built in several architectural styles, but are surprisingly harmoniously combined with each other. Only here you can see the late Gothic, which is the center of the ensemble, buildings built in the Renaissance and Baroque style, located closer to the fortified walls.

Cesky Krumlov Castle today consists of more than 40 palaces and outbuildings located around five courtyards, as well as a magnificent park spread over 10 hectares around. Directly

near the castle gate there is a general plan of the castle, on which all the buildings and structures located on its territory are indicated in detail.
